Santouka Ramen @ Robson

Santouka Ramen

Address: 1690 Robson Street, Vancouver, BC V6G 1C7 (Across from Whole Foods on Robson) Phone: (604) 681-8121 *Get here early, as early as 11:30 am! The line tends to build up as early as 12 pm! It is well worth the wait! This small eatery is a favourite of mine ever since it first opened.

They specialize in Pork Bone Broth (Toroniku), but also offer Miso, Shio and Shoyu soup base. Shoyu is Pork Broth and Soy Sauce combined. Shio is Salt with a mild, creamy soup base. Miso is Pork Broth and Miso paste combined. I usually order the same thing everytime. Its called the

Ikura Gohan combo, which includes a bowl of Ikura Don (Salmon Roe Rice) and a large bowl of their Ramen with your choice of soup base (above) . It costs a dollar to upgrade from the regular size to the large size. The Ikura Don has a generous helping of salmon roe sitting on a bed of rice with shredded tamago (egg) and cloves.

I typically get the Miso Ramen and each bowl has the following: - Bamboo Shoots (Menma) - Black Ear Fungus (Kikurage) - 2 slices of Chashu (Pork Meat from the back ribs) - 1 slice of the swirly pink and white fish ball (Narutomaki) - Green onion and a dash of spices - and of course, Ramen noodles! + a side of half a hard boiled soy sauce egg and 2 strips of pickled radish
