As summer break drew to a close, I managed to snag one more day to go to the last patisserie on my list I hadn't been to yet. Thankfully my friend Nicole, who runs the blog "The Devil Stole My Prada", called me called me before I went home. We traversed downtown Vancouver for most of the afternoon and I decided to take her to Thierry.

Theirry is situated a block past the Art Gallery in Alberni Street, close to where Shabusen and the Hermes shop and is. There's an outdoor patio that's always packed with customers, so you can't miss it! Upon walking inside, run over to the display counter and stare at the dessert options. They have everything from whole cakes, individual cakes, chocolates, drinks, sandwiches and ice cream. Each one is masterfully crafted and practically just waiting for you to eat it. I notice that passionfruit was a main ingredient here, possibly because it was in-season in Summer.

I tried to get my friends macarons for their birthday, but me being the non-procrastinator both got there too early and got them too early. Macarons are usually put out at 12 noon and they don't last for more than 3 days. Instead, I decided to get them chocolate and i even had one myself. It was quite different than the chocolate both you or I are used to at christmastime, as this was both unique in taste and more smooth.

I got the Plat D'Or fo visual mainly and I didn't want to pick up some random flavor of chocolate.

$1.95/ individual chocolate.

Macarons here are $2.25 each, but they look slightly bigger than anywhere else's macarons.

Outstanding Flavors: Chocolate Chip Brown Sugar, Lychee, Maple Pecan

I ordered the "Le Russe" made of hazelnut dacqouise (almond and hazelnut meringue)+ feuilletine + praline buttercream with a side of a Maple Pecan Macaron. I know the macaron sounds basic, but i was trying to figure out which dessert shop had the best one. This combo paired with a drink cost just under $15.

Nicole ordered the "Strawberry Basil Tart" and a Gianduja Macaron (Dark chocolate with about 30% hazelnut). This really surprised me with the basil notes and it tasted like a strawberry pizza almost. She also got a drink and this cost $13 to $14 dollars.

Naturally, we ran to the counter to order, but we forgot about the tables. So we had to stand for about 5 minutes before a table became free to us. SO MAKE SURE TO GET A TABLE FIRST HERE!!
