Ramen Danbo @ Kitsilano

Open All Week 11am to 11pm

If you don't want sushi, but you're bored of regular ramen, you should check out Ramen Danbo. This Kitsilano location is their first location outside of Japan with a second location now open on Robson Street. The restaurant itself is a little tiny with about 6 tables and a counter area, so there is a bit of a wait if you get there at lunch time. They're specialty is a "Fukuoka Kyushu Hakata Style" Tonkotsu Ramen. It doesnt' look too unique, but what's different about this is that the noodles are thinner and Tonkotsu (pork bones) replaces Miso as the main soup baase ingredient. This Umami (savoury) soup retains all the rich flavor that a typical soup would as well, but it's advertised as imported from Japan and low in Sodium, which is a must for soup addicts. I found it pree salty to be honest. :P

Classic Tonkotsu Ramen - $9.45

You get to customize your order here with options such as noodle firmness, thickness and the spiciness or fullness of the broth. But going with the standard is pretty alright in itself. However, you have to pay for the basic toppings if you desperately need them (ex. Egg, Fungus, Seaweed) WHICH IS TERRIBLE LOL. The ChaShu was a little tough, but i prefer that rather than the melty kind offered everywhere else.

The staff are really jumpy about the bowl going to the right person, so when you order, tell them who the bowl is for. Just YOLO it's fine! It's mainly just for separating cheques when it comes to paying, which they assume everybody wants to do. Just give the bowl to the right person in your group when it arrives and start eating right away.
